Commodore Yachting Barge

...the detail...

One day courses start at 9am and typically end between 4pm and 5pm. Accommodation is not provided but may be available if requested.
For courses starting on a Saturday or Monday morning, the evening before is our “meet and greet night” starting at 7pm, giving you a chance to meet your skipper and the rest of the crew. You will sleep on board overnight. We understand if this time is difficult for you to manage but please let us know if you plan to arrive later. Alternatively, you can arrive in the morning.
It is very helpful to our staff if you can let us know what time you expect to arrive by e-mailing us at training@commodore-yachting.com When you reach Gosport Marina you should go to the Marina reception and ask for a staff member to let you on to the pontoons and direct you to our floating office. You can then make your way to the Commodore Yachting Barge which is located on ‘A’ pontoon where our staff will meet you. The marina staff will assist if you are unsure how to find us.

...preparation..

Start Yachting and Competent Crew
We do not expect any preparation for these beginner courses although you might like to read the RYA Competent Crew Book
Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Courses
For all courses except the combined course we recommend you refresh your theory. RYA publications make excellent reading.

Finding us......

By Road.  Leave the M27 at junction 11 and take the A32 into Gosport town centre.  Follow the signs for Gosport town centre, (you will notice signs at Fareham that also say town centre but you should follow the signs to Gosport). Keep going towards Gosport town centre, some of the landmarks will be the KWIKFIT Garage on your left, CROWN BINGO on your right and ST VINCENT’S COLLEGE on the left hand side.  Go through a set of traffic lights about half a mile past the college, continue straight on and you will pass ALDI on your left. If you continue past ALDI you will see the BOAT YARD and DRY STACK , again on your left. Just a few yards beyond this look out for the entrance to GOSPORT MARINA. GOSPORT MARINA is on the left hand side just before the CASTLE TAVERN.

By Rail.  Catch a train to Portsmouth Harbour railway station (not Portsmouth & Southsea) – from London these go from Waterloo Station, fast trains take just under 90 minutes.  There is also a train from Victoria. From Portsmouth Harbour station follow the signs for the Gosport ferry (not the Isle of Wight ferry). The trip across the harbour takes about three minutes and a return ticket costs £3.30 / £2.20 concessions.

On leaving the ferry, you can walk to the marina in about 3 minutes. Walk up from the ferry to the road and turn right, you will pass the Castle Tavern on your right hand side, the entrance to the marina is 20 metres past the pub.
