Enviromental Organisations

Commodore Yachting are committed to supporting organisations that campaign to protect our natural environment. Here are some of our friends who are working to protect the marine  habitat and species, please visit their websites to find out more about their work.

The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA)

The Environmental Investigation Agency (EIA) is an independent campaigning organisation formed in 1984 by environmentalists Dave Currey, Jennifer Lonsdale and Allan Thornton. The EIA is committed to bringing about change that protects the natural world from environmental crime and abuse. They have a particular interest in investigating environmental crime and researching ways to protect marine life especially whales.

International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) Song of the Whale

The Song of the Whale is a conservation research vessel custom built for IFAW, managed and operated by Marine Conservation Research Limited (MCR) The vessel is many things: research centre, outreach vehicle, floating classroom and global ambassador for whale conservation. It travels around the world and across the oceans on a unique mission to protect whales from harm and save whale species from extinction.

The research conducted from Song of the Whale plays a particularly important role. By carrying out population assessments, perfecting surveying techniques and developing technologies that may help save whale species from extinction, Song of the Whale is proving to be one of the most effective non-invasive whale research vessels in the world.

The Song of the Whale has visited Gosport Marina where the Commodore team were invited on board by crew member and ex Fastrack Yachtmaster student Ed Hewitt. Ed has sailed on the vessel since gaining his Yachtmaster qualification and is passionate about the research work undertaken by the organisation having tracked whales around the UK and further afield.
