Commodore Yachting offers a wide range of practical sailing courses in the Solent. Whether these are your first ever sailing lessons or you are an experienced sailor looking for professional sailing qualifications we aim to tailor your sailing experience to meet your individual requirements. Our RYA instructors are all highly experienced and carefully chosen to make your sailing course both great fun and and a fantastic learning experience.
The majority of our RYA sailing courses take place whilst sailing in and around the sheltered waters of the Solent. Each course takes place on board one of our comfortable Bavaria sailing yachts. There will never be more than 5 students on board although our smallest yacht sleeps up to 8 people.
Unlike some RYA sailing courses our courses are FULLY INCLUSIVE of accommodation on board the yacht, meals, hire of wet weather gear and berthing fees so you don't have to spend another penny once you arrive on your yacht!
Arrival Time: for courses starting on a Saturday morning, Friday is our "meet and greet night" giving you a chance to meet your skipper and the rest of the crew. For Monday to Friday courses you can come down on a Sunday evening.
Accommodation: You will be accommodated on board one of our Bavaria yachts for the whole course. We provide pillows and pillowcases but you will need to bring your own sleeping bags and towels. During the course you will visit different ports, harbours and marinas in and around the Solent returning to Gosport Marina at the end of the course. You can expect to spend at least one night on a buoy or at anchor and may not have access to shore power every night. You may find it useful the bring a 12 volt charger for charging phones. All our yachts sleep at least 8 people in 3 or 4 double cabins although there will never be this number on board for a RYA training course. Occasionally you may be expected to share a cabin or saloon with another student of the same sex.
Single occupancy: We can guarantee you a single cabin for a supplement of £100.00 for 5 day courses, subject to availability. Please contact us for supplement rates for other courses.
All inclusive price: means that once you have booked your practical sailing course with us there are no hidden extra charges:
Meals: for 5 day practical courses you will receive three meals a day. Please bring your own favourite “treats” or shop for them when we go ashore as we cannot cater for everyone’s tastes although we do try very hard!
A typical menu for the week might be:

For 9 day courses your evening meal will be provided during the practical aspect of the course - cooking on board is all part of the experience! On weekend courses you will purchase your own evening meal ashore.
Getting here: Gosport Marina is well placed for both road travel and public transport. For students travelling by train or coach it is just a 5 minute ferry trip across Portsmouth Harbour from the station and then less than a 5 minute walk to the marina. If you are travelling by car there is free parking locally or secure parking at the marina for which there is a charge. Commodore Yachting students receive a parking discount and will never pay more than £10.00 for car parking.
Insurance: We recommend that you take out insurance to cover you in the event of any accident or injury during the course or in the event of you making a cancellation. If you do not have your own insurance cover Topsail Insurance may be able to help you with this.
