RYA Active Marinas – Own Boat Tuition

Commodore Yachting were delighted to take part in the second RYA Active Marina event at Gosport Marina on Saturday May 11th. After a successful ‘Crew Training’ day in April this RYA event focused on improving boat handling skills for marina berth holders with a ‘Own Boat Tuition’ day. Boat owners booked 2 hour training sessions with experienced RYA instructors from RYA sailing schools based at the marina to experience the difference a short boat handling session could make to their sailing enjoyment. Feedback from those that took part was excellent throughout making the day a resounding success all round.

The idea behind the RYA Active Marina project is to encourage boat owners and their crews to enjoy they boats more and meet fellow marina berth holders at marina events.

The next event in the Gosport Marina Active Marina programme is a ‘Cruise in Company to Chichester Marina on June 23rd – 24th. There will be a chart briefing before the event to help skippers and crews with planning the passage and pilotage into Chichester. Timberland smiles in the rain!

A rainy Wednesday in May could not dampen the spirits of this Timberland crew on a Corporate Sailing event to road test their new Formentor collection of sailing clothing and footwear. The event was planned to show off the latest collection to journalist friends and take them out for a spin on the water at the same time. Although there was no sun in sight, a great sailing adventure was had by all and a heavy shower tested the sailing kit to its limits.

Suffice to say everyone was kept warm and dry as these smiles show. A late lunch at The Boat House Cafe at Gosport Marina was a perfect end to a splendid day out on the water.

Own Boat Tuition

Many boat owners feel that they would benefit from some training to perfect their sailing and boat handling skills on their own boat. We can offer Own Boat Tuition for as little as one day, a 5 day RYA practical course or for a skippered cruise. Let us know your requirements and we can tailor the training to meet your needs.

One or two day informal training sessions

Informal own boat tuition training sessions are useful for finding out more about your boat, how she handles and explaining some of the mysteries of boat handling, sail trim and navigation.

RYA Competent Crew, Day Skipper or Yachtmaster course

Put your own crew together to take a RYA course on your own boat. We will provide an experienced RYA instructor to take you through the syllabus and ensure that by the end of the course you are competent to crew or skipper your own boat.

Skippered Cruise

If you fancy taking your boat further afield but are nervous of your skippering ability away from familiar waters we can put an experienced skipper on board who will keep you safe and help you develop new skills at the same time.

Our fees for Own Boat Tuition start at £180.00 a day for up to three people on board.

Yachtmaster Fastrack get Top Marks!

Congratulations to Don, James and Christos on passing their Yachtmaster exams!

After 16 weeks of sailing around the Solent, South Coast, Channel Islands and Brittany our three Yachtmaster Fastrack students have passed their exams. Well done guys and a big thank you to the team of RYA instructors who have taught them throughout their Yachtmaster course.
