Fastcat aground on Ryde Sands

Ryde Fastcat aground

Passengers were stranded yesterday when the ferry they were travelling on from Portsmouth to Ryde on the Isle of Wight ran aground on Ryde Sands. The incident happened during the annual Round the Island Race in which nearly 1800 yachts were competing. The Fastcat was joined by a competitor in the race who also went aground on the sandbank. Although the yacht was soon refloated the ferry had to wait until the tide rose before it could proceed on its journey.
