Competent Crew – why bother?

Who can tie a rolling hitch?

Who can tie a rolling hitch?

Many people planning to take a RYA course ask me the question ‘ can I miss out Competent Crew and go straight on to Day Skipper?’ My answer is usually a resounding NO! Competent Crew is a fantastic introduction to how to do pretty well everything on a boat apart from being the skipper and undertaking the navigation. You will learn how to handle sails, helm and ropework as well as all the safety aspects of being on board a sailing yacht all  under the watchful eye of an experienced RYA instructor. By the end of the 5 day RYA Competent Crew course you will be a useful member of the crew, able  assist in all tasks from putting up the sails, tacking and steering to tying up in the harbour or marina at the end of the day. After this 5 day sailing course you will have the knowledge and experience to undertake both the Day Skipper Theory and Day Skipper Practical course.

If you have any questions about any Rya training courses please contact us at info@commodore-yachting.com or use this blog to ask them and I will do my best to give you an answer.
