With the RYA Sailing School classroom and floating office out of the water for a refit and all the yachts either on a sailing course or out on charter in the Solent, Commodore corner is  empty for yet another weekend! We would like to say a big thank you to all our yacht  charter customers and sailing school students for making 2010 another fantastic season for Commodore Yachting.

Solent Yacht Charter

If you charter a yacht in the Solent for a weekend make sure you get to Lymington before the Saturday market finishes in the afternoon. Better still aim to arrive Friday night to be sure of the early bird bargains. We took our skippered charter yacht to Berthon’s Marina on Good Friday where we were bedazzled by the brand new shower facilities. What a change from the portacabins last year!

On Saturday morning the high street was bustling with day trippers as well as yachties giving a real holiday feel to the town even though it was bitterly cold. We trecked up the steep hill to the High Street where the market was already underway with a huge array of stalls selling everything from farmhouse cheeses to mimosa trees as well as every kind of Easter bunny you can imagine. I was very temped to buy a mimosa tree for the garden but tomorrow we would be sailing to the Channel Islands so maybe it wasn’t such a good idea. Thankfully my attention was soon drawn to the Italian Coffee Shop into which we were lured for coffee and the most fabulous carrot cake – mmmmm!

Adelaide Star in Dartmouth

Solent based charter yacht Adelaide Star found herself in Plymouth at the end of the Fastnet Race on Saturday. With the prospect of a 24 hr sail back to her home port of Gosport bypassing the lovely Devon coast a quick change of plan was required.  With the RYA sailing school in the safe hands of chief instructor Tom, RYA principle Stuart Cooper decided to embark upon a South Coast cruise taking a slow route home aboard the charter yacht. With a quick transfer of the office from Gosport Marina to the RYA sailing school yacht Karen was pleased to be Competent Crew for the week. After end of the Fastnet Race celebrations with the crew in Plymouth, sunny Salcombe was the next port of call with many Rolex Fastnet battle banners flying in the busy harbour. Adelaide Star was not the only charter yacht making the most of the opportunity to enjoy a cruise back to base. Next stop is bustling Dartmouth and with Adelaide Star berthed at the town quay, after a run ashore to replenish supplies the crew announced that they would happily be storm bound in this lovely Devon town!

Commodore Yachting are delighted to announce that despite rumours of recession, business is booming down on the marina and we have just taken delivery of another Bavaria 44 – Emerald Star. This 4 cabin yacht will be available for charter and already her diary is filling up. Ideal for charter in the Solent or a Cross Channel cruise this yacht is an exciting addition to the Commodore Yachting Fleet.
