BBC Bang goes the Theory comes to Gosport

All work ground to a halt at Gosport Marina this morning as the presenters of the BBC’s ‘Bang Goes the Theory’ took to an boat built of hemp and ice. The intrepid crew of 4 planned to cross the Solent to Cowes in the boat first dreamed up by war time scientists looking for an alternative to steel.

After a champagne launch the crew boarded the iceboat which looked as if it would capsize at any moment and headed off into Portsmouth Harbour to begin it’s crossing to the Isle of Wight. The voyage proved to be shortlived after the unfortunate crew were forced to abandon ship when the boat started to sink a few hundred yards from the marina.

The programme is due to be screened on BBC1 on October 13th.
