The majority of our courses are done whilst sailing in and around
the Solent. Yachmaster Prep and Coastal Skippers could find themselves
sailing across the other side of the channel in France or the Channel Islands.
Our sea school boats are all 8 berth yachts but we only ever have
a maximum of five students on board.

COMPETENT CREW
This is for beginners and those who would like to become active
crew members rather than passengers. Most courses start on a Sunday
evening to give the crew a chance to settle in and find their way
around the yacht before sailing the next day. You will be given
a full safety brief prior to departure and shown how everything
works on the yacht. Virtually all the course is hands on, without
you the yacht won't be steered and the sails won't go up and down!
By the end of the course you will be able to do all the tasks the
skipper asks from you.

DAY SKIPPER COURSE (PRACTICAL)
This course is designed for aspiring skippers who have some yachting
experience and basic navigational skills.
Each trainee skipper will be asked to skipper the yacht on a short
passage, the instructor will be on hand to give advice and encouragement
to ensure your destination is reached safely. The essential element
is you experiencing being in charge of the yacht and learning how
to act as a skipper.

COASTAL SKIPPER COURSE (PRACTICAL)
This is an advanced skippering course for people with considerable
knowledge and sailing skills. You will be expected to be able to sail a
yacht at night as well as during the day and handle the yacht in
more demanding situations. By the end of this course you should
have the skills and knowledge (but not the experience) to become
a yachtmaster. The course, like the day skipper, will consist of
passages by each trainee in a variety of situations. It all adds
up to a demanding but very satisfying week.

YACHTMASTER OFFSHORE
This is an experienced yachtsman competent to skipper a yacht on
passage during which the yacht is no more than 150 miles from safe
haven. You should also have a current first aid certificate and
VHF radio license.
BASIC NAVIGATION and SAFETY COURSE
A basic introduction to navigation and safety for anyone new to boating: sailors, powerboaters, sea anglers, divers and boatmasters. Also useful for experienced dinghy and keelboat sailors and inshore racers.
